I wanted to finish the guide with a page to say thank you to those businesses who pay their suppliers on time.
I've had the good fortune to have worked with some clients who pay the invoice within hours of receiving it, within days, within the payment terms without fuss.
I wanted to say thank you to the businesses who chased me when I'd done the work to make sure I got the invoice in quickly so they could get me paid. Thank you to the clients who, when there was a problem with paying me on time, contacted me ahead of the due date, and communicated well. Thank you to the clients who just understand that paying bills on time is the absolute bare minimum you can do to create a good working relationship with people.
That quite possibly includes you - every time you pay another freelancer or small business on-time or early, you're helping to improve things.
Thank you.
The Small Business Commissioner has developed something called the Prompt Payment Code, and are looking at the idea of giving people 'badges' to show they're a good payer. We support the celebration of the good'uns, and more transparency around which businesses are paying on time (and therefore which are not) is only a positive thing.
If you've had a good client - shout about it.
Let's celebrate the good ones.
